MURCIA CORVERA INTERNATIONAL airport is a 45km 30 minute drive (approximately 40 euros by taxi) so we can arrange for a driver to meet you in the Arrivals Hall if you supply your flight details. If you prefer to be independent and mobile for the duration of your stay, there are several hire car companies based in the terminal building. Budget airlines including RYANAIR and EASYJET fly in all year round.

ALICANTE airport offers a greater variety of flights and is approximately an hour’s drive (70kms) away with many hire car companies. A taxi would cost around 85 euros and there is also a bus which takes roughly 3 hours via Murcia.

Los Nietos train station is just a 4 km 5 minute drive away which connects with CARTAGENA, MURCIA & ALICANTE.

By Boat

For those wishing to explore 650kms of Spanish countryside en-route from BILBAO or SANTANDER there are ferries from Portsmouth and Plymouth. Or maybe you have your own? If so, park up at the marina 200m up the shore.

By Car

For those wishing to explore 1500kms of French and Spanish countryside en-route from CALAIS there are ferries and Eurotunnel.

  • sandy beach with a promenade that runs the length and a marina at the end of the pier 

5 minute drive South is LOS NIETOS, a very old fishing village which features:

  • medium size village centre with a selection of very nice restaurants, cafes, bars and shops 
  • beaches which run almost the full length of the 2 Km seafront from the Natural Park at La Lengua de la Vaca headland - a great place for fishing, to La Viva Restaurant at the northern end of the village where kite and wind surfers congregate. 
  • local train station, to allow you to explore the city of Cartagena, a 28 minute €1.35 train ride over the hills.


Sheltered from the winds through the hills that surround it, Cartagena's deep water port has always been considered the best natural harbour in the Western Mediterranean. The entrance from the ocean is protected by rocky fortified headlands that act like claws, pincering enemy ships. With a fascinating history dating back 3,000 years, a walled city was built beside this perfect sea port.

10 minute drive South is CABO DE PALOS (Cape Palos), the most Southerly place on the Mar Menor. It is a large village with:

  • a quaint marina which has moorings for about 100 small boats
  • some excellent restaurants and cafes, renowned for serving a great selection of fresh fish
  • a rocky coastline, ideal for exploring, and a nice walk out to the light house
  • a busy Sunday morning market with over 100 stalls selling fruit, vegetables, clothes, shoes, bags and home wares
